Water to Live
It is a shocking fact of life on earth. Something most of us take for granted, clean water for drinking, cooking and sanitation needs, is a lifelong struggle for our fellow human beings in developing countries. I've decided to try and help, and I hope you will to. Charity:Water is dedicated to bringing Clean Water projects to those in need. I've started a Campaign, Water to Live, to try and raise $5,000. If successful, we can bring Clean Water to 50 families; 250 people. This is an entire community. All your donations go directly to the water project and are completely ...
How Joe Sees Martinis
Once upon a time, not that long ago, I was quite the martini maker. I’d been a Scotch on the Rocks man for many years, so I was a bit put off by the thought of working that hard to create a drink. But there was something very appealing about the martini; the shape of the glass, the elegant appearance one can strike while holding one, the James Bondness of it all. So I invested in a small martini kit and purchased gin and vermouth. Using a recipe I found on line, I made my first martini. To say it ...

It's hard to believe I'm not writing another Laser Tattoo Removal post, but it's true. After my last session, I went to see Dave Scearce at Blood, Sweat and Tears Tattoo to get an opinion about the status of my laser reduction. He astounded and cheered me with the statement "I can cover it now," but I didn't get my hopes up too high. As the date approached for my next laser session, I emailed him freshly taken pictures of my faded tattoos for his review. He reaffirmed his earlier statement and I canceled my next laser session. I spent 7 ...
My 35 pound Fat Loss Odyssey
There are many misconceptions when it comes to diet and exercise, and lots of gimmicks designed to make money from an overweight and desperate American public. You won’t find a single gimmick here, no promises of incredible results in only 28 days. The human body is just not designed like that. Additionally, the human psyche is not designed like that. I’ve been studying nutrition and exercise for over 20 years. I’ve experimented with all kinds of weight training and diet regimens, trained for running, triathlon, bodybuilding and powerlifting, all of it at the recreational level. I am not an athlete. What ...
Corporations are people too
That’s what the Supreme Court of the United States decided today in a split decision, 5-4.¹ It’s best to consider this decision with some historical background. In 1907, President Teddy Roosevelt called on Congress to restrict corporations, railroads and banks from using their own money in federal election campaigns. The Tillman Act was enacted and since then, additional statutes have been enacted in an attempt to limit the influence of the wealthy on the outcome of federal elections. Today, the highest court in the land overturned these laws indicating that the First Amendment of the Constitution gives corporations, just like individuals, ...
From the Mouths of Babes
I was raised Catholic. I went to Catholic school up until the 8th grade. I went to church 6 days a week during that time, each weekday morning before school and of course on Sundays. I stopped being religious almost immediately upon starting public high school. My wife is Jewish. Her mother was Jewish and her father was Catholic. They celebrated Christmas. She didn't get much in the form of information about her religion. When we had children, we agreed the children would be raised Jewish, after all their mother was Jewish. I can't say I didn't have any trepidation about this. ...
Fashion Tips for Men who dont care about Fashion
I, like many of my male counterparts, don’t care much for fashion. My preferred outfit generally involves cargo pants and a black T-Shirt. Sometimes I’ll wear jeans instead, or if it’s hot out, cargo shorts. But that doesn’t mean I don’t know how to dress when I go out, or head to work, or anywhere else where I need to look presentable. As a service to my fellow man, I hereby provide the Fashion Tips for Men who don’t care about Fashion. Your socks should match your pants. There’s nothing more hideous than white socks under your Dockers, or blue socks ...
Empty your mind, if you can
My wife and I are both very active physically, and all that activity takes a toll. Our bodies get beat up and one of our favorite rehab tools is the hot tub. We use lots of others; in fact I wrote a whole post on managing aches and pains from working out here. But today’s post is not about hydrotherapy, but about a little game we played in the hot tub tonight. For whatever reason, I tend to jabber on like a monkey in a tree whenever I get in the hot tub. I have a captive audience and I will ...
The War on Terror Destined to Fail
The events of September 11, 2001 changed the US policy toward terrorism in a fundamental and comprehensive way. Under President George W. Bush, the US initiated the War on Terror as a strategic means to an end; to protect the citizens of the US and allies, to protect the business interests of the US and allies at home and abroad, break up terrorist cells in the US, and disrupt the activities of the international network of terrorist organizations made up of a number of groups under the umbrella of al-Qaeda.[1] Under President Obama, the “War on Terror” catch phrase has been ...
The Hard Gainers Supplement List
As part of my apparently continuing series Help, I’m skinny and I can’t Bulk Up comes the supplement list every thin man needs in his quest for adding quality muscle to his frame. It’s important to understand supplements are not magic pills and powders. You need to be consistently performing the workout and following the Hard Gainers Diet Plan to get results. The supplements will help, but will not make up for poor training and diet. sup·ple·ment (spl-mnt) n. 1. Something added to complete a thing, make up for a deficiency, or extend or strengthen the whole. So get your training and diet together ...
Rush Limbaugh and the Hawaii Hospital Caper
On December 30, 2009 as people around the world planned their New Year's Eve celebrations, a story went viral on twitter: Rush Limbaugh was rushed to the hospital with chest pain. Being the twitter junkie I am, I was in the know very quickly. I am not a fan of Rush, so I didn't know he was vacationing in Hawaii at the time. I did know that President Obama was vacationing in Hawaii though and my mind quickly connected the dots and some rather humorous ideas started popping in my head like New Year's Eve fireworks. 9:49 PM Rush Limbaugh rushed ...
